Effective Communication to Encourage Innovation – March 2021

    Flyer for Lovelace workshop

Professor Daisy Lovelace of Duke’s Fuqua Business School taught a CSQC-sponsored short course to students and postdocs over two days in March 2021.

Effective communication is a foundation to long-term professional success. You may have excellent ideas, but you must also develop the skills necessary to clearly and persuasively share those ideas with others. To promote innovation in teams, communication skills are needed to foster belonging and improve collaboration.

This short course covered (1) elements of effective communication; (2) speaking to non-technical audiences; (3) developing a personal pitch; (4) pitching innovative ideas; and (5) giving and receiving feedback. Selected pre-readings were taken from Harvard Business Review.
